Diving into a Unusual Steam Demo: Playing as a Poop with the Goal to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and players have found plenty of entertaining indie games. However, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Named Unko Technica, this retro-inspired jumping adventure includes a hero that is truly a turd trying to make its way to a restroom. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
The gameplay is simple: just use a single jump button. Throughout numerous levels, battle tough enemies and unlock a store to purchase customizations for your dung hero.
Plan your jumps precisely, as a wrong move means beginning again. Bounce on bubbles to launch yourself upward, navigate fragile platforms, and activate switches to reveal secret routes. Collect UN-KOINS for buying more difficult game content as the action gets crazy.
Graphically, the demo shows off eye-catching level designs and catchy music score. The simple graphics of morphing basic polygons could recall gamers of old favorites like Earthbound.
Even though difficult to name similar titles where you control a dung character, interactive entertainment have long included scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, you can make throwables from character excrement. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize manure as fertilizer. Naturally, this theme is present heavily in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its goofy premise, Unko Technica has already received significant accolades, including being named best at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. This trial version is available currently on Steam, with the complete version set to launch on Steam this November.
